Pie in the Sky

FAIL! People rave about this place so let me break down my reasoning for my experience.

Service: This was probably the worst part. She forgot about our salads, didn't bring plates, was totally absent for the longest time. I had to track her down several times.

Food: We ordered a Margherita pizza. It was OK at best. There was about 4 inches of crust, minimal toppings, and the olive oil that should have been drizzled was poured on the center. Towards the end of the meal the Parmesan cheese was running low so I took the top off and shook it out, except what came out were moldy balls of cheese, NASTY!

Conclusion: If you want a quality pizza in the area, go straight to Famous Joes! Don't waste your time at Pie in the Sky!

Viet Huong again

This time I grabbed a menu to upload. As tempting as it was to get another claypot I decided to venture out and try the Pho pronounced "Fuh". They offered many versions of the dish although I order the Pho Thai, which is a beef broth based soup with rice noodles, vegetables, and beef. My girlfriend got the chicken claypot and we shared dishes. Once again Viet Huong comes through with another winner. It was fantastic! We also tried the spring rolls that came with a peanut sauce, very tasty! One recommendation would be to get the smaller size, unless you are a sumo I doubt you can finish the large Pho.

Good: Taste, Freshness, Portions

Bad: I just don't have anything to say here.

Venice Pizza

Venice Pizza

Take this post with a grain of salt since I got a salad at a pizza joint. Hopefully the menu posted along with it will be more useful. I ordered a large chicken Caesar salad for lunch today. All in all I enjoyed it.

Good: Portion size (I will get the small next time), Caesar dressing was great and most likely homemade, chicken was well cooked and flavored

Bad: Romaine lettuce was finely shredded, croutons

China House

China House is off of Old Madison Pike and serves a quick and inexpensive lunch. I tried the Beef Lo Mein for lunch today and it was a huge portion for $4.95. I will probably get two lunches out of it. This is standard Chinese takeout nothing more and nothing less. I have had their Mongolian Beef as well and enjoyed it. I will continue to come back. The best quality of this place is consistency. My favorite dish thus far is the Mongolian Beef.

Good: Price, Consistency, time
Bad: Lackluster flavors

Edith Ann's

I heard this place was the best breakfast in Huntsville. I didn't get breakfast so, I won't be the judge on that but, I did stop in for lunch last Saturday. The building is very unique and has that old time dinner feel to it. My server was very responsive, although I wish she would have told me about the brisket special. I ordered the chop steak, which if I remember correctly was the only lunch choice other than the brisket special. The meal was OK. The green beans were from a can, the potatoes were instant, and I would bet the gravy was from a can. The steak was overcooked, but it was still OK. The cornbread was good. My meal wasn't great, but it was OK. I will go back for breakfast next time and check it out.

Good: Location, Cornbread, Service
Bad: Freshness, Flavors

Viet Huong

A good friend took me here for lunch. I looked at the local ratings, and to my surprise there were many people raving about this place. The restaurant located next to HHGreg on University Dr. in a shopping center. When I arrived, the first thing I noticed was that every table was full. It didn't take long until I got a seat. I looked around at customers dishes discretely while waiting for my friend, the portions where large, sometimes too much for one person. Everything looked fresh and appetizing. My friend suggested I get the Chicken Clay Pot, so I ordered the Beef Clay Pot. The dish comes out sizzling in a very hot clay pot which makes the rice around the edges chewy in a good way. The pot is full of vegetables, rice, and beef and smells fantastic. I threw on some Hosin Sauce, Sriracha sauce, and Garlic chili sauce that was on the table and made this a spicy Vietnamese concoction that I won't forget. The flavors were amazing. The best meal I have had in a month. I will be back very soon! Next time I will grab a menu to post with my next review.

The Beginning

I started this blog just to give my humble opinion of the local food in Huntsville, AL. I am not a professional food critic by any means. Spicy ethnic food is were my heart lays. I will try to post menus and pictures local places that I go to. Huntsville has some very good ethnic restaurants and I hope the trend will continue, so for those who want to venture out but don't know what to eat, I hope this will help.
